Mrs Stewart teaches private lessons to students of all ages and levels. She is an elementary piano specialist and belongs to the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association. She uses technology in her studio to keep current and also as learning tools which encourage and help her students with their studies.
The students are given opportunities to learn concepts through piano games. These games increase the student's comfort and allows them the chance to ask questions. These questions often lead to a deeper understanding of the concepts being taught and enable the student to focus on one area at a time.
Mrs Stewart enjoys many different types of music and finds students enjoy playing pieces they recognize. Her students music preferences are valuable for teaching because they provide the interest and the motivation for playing the piano. Mrs Stewart strives to find music that students enjoy and uses a variety of books based on students abilities and likes. Students work with her guidance and set long term and short term goals.
Students benefit from positivity in the classes and lots of encouragement. Exploring new concepts and new pieces is valued because students that are able to gain independence in reading music are more likely to continue playing. Mrs Stewart offers gradual assignments leading towards reading pieces without assistance. Students benefit from the time spent looking at their piece and creating with the help of Mrs Stewart a map of their piece including looking for patterns, new concepts and many other areas that help the student feel more equipped to read their pieces.
The learning triangle of student, parent and teacher is cherished in the studio. Open communication gives the student the opportunity to be successful in their piano studies.
